ACT NOW: Write Your Senator to Support Attorney General Ken Paxton's 'Ambush' Texas Impeachment

In May, Attorney General Ken Paxton was charged in Texas with allegations of bribery and faces 16 counts related to abuse of public trust. In a vote of 121 to 23, the State House voted that Paxton to go to trial in the state Senate. He is on leave of absence until the trial is over.

WND reported that the case began without documentation, sworn testimony, or witnesses. Their report stated,

“After a three-hour hearing at which a bunch of lawyers hired by a legislative committee in Texas, many of whom were registered Democrats, the committee issued 20 articles of impeachment against Attorney General Ken Paxton and within hours, the full House voted for impeachment.”

Critics feel this process failed to follow due process, was illegal, and unethical. It is thus felt to be largely a political stunt, partly because most alleged counts occurred before Paxton’s most recent election to the AG office, with a whopping 800,000 votes.

The vote is that most of the case should be thrown out, and a May 30, 2023 commentary on it was posted by WND columnist andy Schlafy, who charged that this was an “undemogratic assault on the will of the voters” and an “ambush impeachment”.

Timing is pivotal, as proceedings begin. A.G. Paxton support from 8 of 10 State Senators he needs in order to be cleared.

What Cruz has Said of Paxton

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas:

“The strongest conservative AG in the country. Bar none”.

Through his lawyer Tony Buzbee, AG Paxton pleaded “not guilty” to all 16 counts. Paxton’s office aids protested and announced their confidence in Paxton, and took leaves of absence in order to work at defending him.
