Clinical Thermography - Back Pain

Because we use thermography before and after low level light therapy (LLLT), we can prove that the latter does something physiologic to the body tissues. For example, before treatment, heat radiating from a back having myofascial pain is evidenced by visible areas of red, showing inflammation. A trigger point may light up a central red area. See Figure 1 below:

Figures 1. Anyone can plainly see the difference between the two images, procured after only 5-10 minutes of low level light therapy. Holding the light wand in the lower spine transforms upper back areas. In this treatment case, the wand was initially held at the lower spine and then moved to the upper spine. Holding the wand in the lower back changed the upper back.

Clinical Thermography: Brain Injury and Expressive Aphasia

A stroke or traumatic brain injury with an expressive aphasia affects the left brain, leaving one unable to speak words that are on the “tip of the tongue”.

In the pre-treatment thermogram shown below, typical findings include increased heat, depicted in red, along the speech cortex or left brain (See Figure 2), in a manner such that after LLLT, the red areas clear with time.

After LLLT, red areas resolve inflammation, showing a normal distribution of green.
