$2500 Withdrawal from Your Bank Account is Back in its Terms of Service Agreement for Anything They Deem as Misinformation or Offensive
Does PayPal think we’re stupid? Back on October 8, 2022, PayPal thought they could pop in on the news, have its stocks fall as millions of dollars stopped flowing to them for updating its terms of agreement.
The update had a clause in it allowing them to withdraw $2,500 from users’ bank accounts simply for posting anything the company deems as misinformation or offensive.
WoW. Did PayPal executives think that consumers wouldn’t see or mind this little clause imposing a stiff fine … for policing freedom of speech? Oh, did they get a hot backlash for big tech overreach and unethical behavior.

On October 13, 2022, this is the letter that PayPal sent to Twitter’s @cvpayne:
Suddenly, it was as if PayPal’s legal team and executives had second thoughts and cited it was an error.
But after they thought people would forget or not look again, like the CDC saying it wouldn’t recommend COVID-19 vaccines on the Children’s Immunization Schedule, there it popped up again… the terms of service… - PayPal highlights it in red regarding
“If you are a seller and receive funds for transactions that violate the Acceptable Use Policy…”
If you are a seller, they can fine you $2,500 for “unacceptable” uses. And they can take it from your linked bank account… I guess if you are a buyer only, they won’t fine you. Yet. That we know of.
I really don’t want to use my PayPal any more, but some major vendors only use it and nothing else. That means we have to keep spreading the word, because PayPal has it’s own (bad) ideas.
