Pentagon Sends USS Dwight D. Eisenhower as Second Aircraft Warship Strike Group to Eastern Mediterranean International Waters to Deter Iran and Lebonese Hezbolla from Attacking Israel
Yesterday, potential expansion of the Israel-Hamas conflict grew such that the Pentagon ordered a second aircraft carrier strike group to Israel’s eastern Mediterranean Sea.
This was done to both send a message of US support for Israel and to deter Iran and Lebonese Hezbollah from expanding the conflict.
Now the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower joins the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group, which was deployed last week and set offshore anchor, then subsequently joined by the addition of more U.S. Air Force fighter jets to the region.
In a statement released yesterday, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed the deployment:
