What gate costing this much could be breached with a chainsaw? What gate costs so much? Even to maintain and monitor it with cameras. This cost sounds ludicrous and suspiciously criminal. Imagine how many shelters and supplies for the homeless Helene victims could be supplied with this amount, instead of wasting it on a gate that may not have a truly safety concern reason to be there.
We obviously do not know all the truths of this incident, but this gate seems awfully important to the government. Why? Is the road or a bridge out, causing an unsafe condition? Does God live behind these gates and requires additional assurances for His privacy? I doubt it.
In Tennessee, on route to a victim's home to help clean-up debris, the bridge of the main road that leads to their driveway was completely washed away, which driveway was about 1/2 mile long, damaged with mud, large stones and other debris, and has washed out areas. It was impassible without a high sitting 4-wheel drive car or truck slowly driven. There were no gates, danger signs... posted on the driveway. We went in at our own risk knowing that damage assessors were previously here and the owner authorized our presence on their property.
The bridge was about 20 feet from and beyond the entrance to the victim's driveway, which hugged the meandering stream up to their home. The main street, where the bridge was supposed to be at least 40 or so feet above stream level, looked like it was torn away like a piece of paper. The bridge concrete trestle supports and street portions were washed downstream about 300 yards. There was hardly a barricade, nor any caution signs for bridge out, hazard, or detour, yet an ad hock bridge made of sunken flat bed trucks and wood planks was built temporarily about 150 yards or so up stream from this road. I saw cars go slowly across it.
Why wasn't a gate, substantial barricade, or proper signage placed here? At best, signs and some wooden barrier wouldn't cost more than a few hundred bucks, unless someone is milking it, as is usually the case when government gets involved, even to do the most simple tasks.
So, there is obviously more to this David James story. I'm thinking there are better ways he could have handled and exposed this gate issue with those who enforce it, but we need to know more.
