We should not confuse leaders with politicians. Making holders of political office into careerist politicians has probably led to this. It’s not public service if you’re paid to do it. That’s just a job. We need to revoke salaries and health benefits and institute term limits for every government position. If people are allowed to hold office for more than a term, they will be more concerned with reelection than making decisions that benefit people. It’s already a well known fact that elected representatives spend inordinate amounts of time drumming up campaign funds.
