Why are you opposed to this? Moses was left in a basket.

No, this is human life. Stupidity. Think of a solution and stop being part of the problem!!!!!!!!!

Expand full comment

The easy way out is for the state to solve all the solutions🙄so they justify it. How stupid is that when the state tried to take you and me OUT!

Yes…let’s trust the state…that’s easy!

It’s horrible, right? The states don’t care they are trying to jump on the coat tails of what is next. My landlord has blk mold I am disabled! Get me in a hotel or better yet give me back my rent for over 5 years and let me get out of here. The town told me not to call the state health dept, as I live in a townhouse. They are afraid to pay out money to clean the mold. But they don’t understand people like me who are immunocompromised, i n ed to get out. This is not the first time dealing with this crap all over nj and the governor will not make laws for it.

It’s beyond horrible…especially given the fact that pro lifer like myself had no idea the gravity of this! I’m freaking 😮 shocked.

Has Alabama lost their damn mind? And better yet have people lost their damn minds with the approval of this…esp after what we have gone through which has been PURE HELL by the state. Just another way to come after our children…what happened to ADOPTION? Oh that’s right, the state doesn’t want you to be happy with a little baby not when they can profit AGAIN…I AM LIVID😔

I look at it this way and I am not going to judge anyone’s faith…only God can do that because ONLY God knows a persons true faith!

IMO…There are two types of Christian’s…the ones who are establishment Christian’s that believe everything the state says (😀prime example of neighbor who I put in place about the church buying into genocide) because they cannot put two and two together😏; and Christian’s that literally think for themselves, that need God and not man to lead them!

Not same, understandable, still no regard for human life.

Different time, different situation. God came down to Moses mom and said He would protect Moses…and why are you bringing something up that happened a couple thousand years ago. That’s twisted and so are YOUR SCRIPTURES.

Hopefully we have progressed since Moses.

I think this is set up with the life of baby as precious. I see Georgia is also working on raising money to do the same!

I'm a pro life, God fearing Christian and invest in many ways to help mothers not abort. Financially and physically volunteer. The church has failed in the USA to help women. The church has failed. I have apologized to women at abortion clinics telling them the church has failed them! Instead of going to planned Parenthood churches should be prepared to help these women and it's starting to happen! Praise God! The church is starting to physically help women! But so many women have been hurt by the church! Government has failed by thinking abortion is the answer! These boxes are just another way we're trying to help save baby's lives! When a woman leaves her baby at fire department, there sometimes, have well meaning people, try to talk the mom out of it or judges her harshly. So these boxes are kind of more confidential. This is better than abortion or neglect.

Expand full comment

Sorry but boxes are not the answer. Love, caring and kindness are. As for those passing judgement, they need to reserve their comments and bite their tongue. If need be, some training to have compassion and realize they are helping to save a babies life and give the baby the care they need to not feel discarded!!! We all need to care.

Thank you. There have been many times in my life, I wondered why I was abused and my biological sister to my adoptive parents was not. I am 56 now, left when I was 18 after such horrible abuse, and to find out recently, I was bought and paid for within 6 days of being born. It was a closed adoption. Legally that’s basically child trafficking. Right? Yes. Babies should not leave hospital at 6 days old and when born needing surgery. I could not get a hold of biological mother, until I was 18, did not know that and then, I could have located her. She came and went in my life, as, we did not get along, now I know why she gave me up. It’s been a long hard horrible road. I have the Lord, who has seen me through some things a girl, young woman, middle aged woman that I should not have too. But I am here to eventually tell my story. Even though sometimes I wonder if it would help…

Expand full comment

Telling you story has many benefits. One for you and at least one, if not many to others, that may have gone through what you have or for others to see what that path looks like and may draw out compassion and caring.

Expand full comment

You should tell your story, for sure. Several others who were also adopted expressed how horrible it would be to say,

“I was abandoned in a box”

Really? Can't we do better?

Humans can do better than boxes, for sure.

When I saw the headline for this ("Law Allows Mothers to...Dump Them in a Box"), I thought this was going to give a horrible description of legalized "post-birth abortion" (which is a term I find oxymoronic).

Now that I've read it, what I can say is that, for sure, this isn't an ideal situation, but it's not as bad as I imagined when I read that headline.

But regardless, it's terrible that parents would have to consider this option.

I'd imagine that in most cases, if a woman's pregnant, then as the months went by, her close friends would eventually know.

Can you imagine how odd it'd be: "How's the baby?"

"Oh...well, we didn't have a abortion, but..."

She wouldn't be able to accurately say that she gave it up for adoption. What would she say? "Oh...I used a safe haven service."

"Oh...what's that?"

"I put my baby in a box." (Maybe not quite those words, but...it'd be odd.)

I have a few questions about some of the procedures that would be used at these box locations.

I can list a number of concerns/questions I'd raise. A couple of these are:

1. One concern I have is this: I read that (I guess in at least one state) that a Mom doesn't have to give any ID--that this is totally anonymous.

But...okay...what if the baby grows up, and wants to trace it's familial roots?

What if, for health or survey reasons, the baby needs to know the health history of their family?

2. Are all of these boxes manned 24/7/365? I think I read that, at least in one location, they are. ALL of them would have to be, and they'd have to get to that baby quick.

Expand full comment

Actually, now that I've a few more minutes to digest this, I can now articulate something that initially felt wrong to me: the use of the "box" is kind of...cold.

Is it not?

To me, the concept of using a "box" to drop-off your baby kind of seems that your baby can be seen as a "commodity" or "product" you want to get rid of.

Why not, at the very least, hand your baby off person-to-person, instead of person-to-box-to-person?

Let's take a step back:

1. Presumably (or, hopefully), these "boxes" are manned 24/7/365?

2. Wouldn't it be more psychologically (or...say...emotionally) reassuring to a mother to hand her baby off to a smiling, compassionate person who'll say "He/she will be safe" rather than placing the baby in a "box"?

3. Because there's (again, presumably) someone available 24/7/365, they can do that--they can have person-to-person instead of that impersonal box. (And let's suppose that the mother's concerned that a staff member will recognize her, as in the case of a small town where everyone knows everyone. Well...the staff can take an oath of confidentiality or sign some sort of confidentiality agreement where they agree not to reveal the identity of the parents or baby.)

Another thing: I recall from that clip that the lady said that once the box is closed, it can't be opened. But what if a mother "drops off" her baby and then, one second after she closes the door, immediately reverses her decision--she now wants to keep her baby?

Then, what?

If the use of these boxes is anonymous, and she didn't fill out any form declaring that she's the mother, would she be able to get her baby back?

If you're reading this, what do you think?

Expand full comment

I wonder if a mother in that awful situation would trust an oath of confidentiality.

Why are you even wondering? Stupidity again. In the early days, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s the young women were sent to convents by their moms. I know, that’s how I am alive . There was no abortion. For f sake, have you all lost your minds???????

Wow, I am adopted. From 1968. This is ludicrous. A box?!?!? At least my biological mom stayed in a convent. What happened to convents? Are they all gone. Who in their right mind would put a human in a box? Let alone a standing box outside? This is so horribly sad. 😔 I was bought and paid for, yes, human trafficked…when you find that out it hurts bad, but at least I was not in a box. I can’t wrap my head around this. We as adults are supposed to take care of children. PERIOD. THEY ARE OUR FUTURE.

Firstly, I am sorry for your having been trafficked. Very sad, but I am so proud of you for being here on Substack. And your perspective as someone who was adopted is very much appreciated. It is horrible. And it is very sad. Maybe churches should camp someone across the street to intercept the baby before it goes in that box. Maybe the pedophiles are already there. It's all awful!

Animals do better than this. God forgive America.

And you ask a great question, What happened to convents?

And I ask also, What happened to orphanges?

So true. I know I. The bear future, there will be more babies than adults for the stupid(sorry for using that word) with the choices they made.

It’s really sad. I am starting to see the politics in schools now, as well. Here where I live they want to take away special needs programs for children, as they cost too much. How much is too much or too little? 😡 when I was in grammar and middle school, I want to be a special needs teacher, there were programs during g and after school for them. I was a volunteer aid. I enjoy working with others. Tonight the is a school meeting, I have no children, I couldn’t, but I am going because if this school district cuts funding, I will be going to my governor. It all starts with them!!!🤬🤬Gov Murphy of NJ should be impeached.

Help build facilities where women can have their babies and if they don’t want them, make a paid donation to the facility, to keep it going. What the heck? It not acceptable! What if there was a hurricane, power outage, or cyberattack. THE BABY IS STILL LEFT IN THE BOX!!!!! Horrible how people think and their actions, should all be ashamed.

I’m also appalled at these horrible comments and Baby Moses has nothing to do with this.

Moses was being hunted down by the state, she had to protect her baby.

Now you can legally give them to the state ….THE GOVERNMENT🙄

I wasn’t against these boxes, thinking it’s better than the child’s life being taken or growing up in a situation where they wished they were dead. However, I am glad you brought up the point of what happens to the baby after being placed in one of these boxes? Do they go a hospital under the guardianship of an adoption agency? Or do they just end up in the never ending loop of the foster system? Or cry worse, being placed into the hands of predators to be used & abused like products for sick & pathetic pedophiles?
