I don’t know anyone flying there. And I’m no fan of our government. I’m just stating a fact, I flew those helicopters for 22 years and have 3 decades of helo flying. There’s no such maneuver. This is nonsense. I believe the govt has obstructed the rescue efforts and that the military should have been sent in weeks ago.
Just out of curiosity, as a helicopter pilot watching the videos, did the pilots exhibit appropriate maneuvering in an area where there were supplies staged and people in the near vicinity? I honestly don’t know, which is why I’m asking.
Just a few questions that occur to me. How would they know where they can and can’t land? Is there someone coordinating all air traffic around the disaster areas providing this info to all helo pilots? I’m just not sure how organized and coordinated everything is around the disaster area. He said they had a meeting, but didn’t give specifics of how that info was disseminated and communicated to rescuers not on scene. I would imagine the biggest problem in any crisis scenario such as this is a breakdown in communication.

Almost anything flying anymore has what’s called ADS-B. Which is a tracker that emits a signal so air traffic control can see them. Obviously it can be disabled but why would anyone do this kinda thing? It wouldn’t cause enough damage to bother doing it
